We left our albergue at 0630 with a takeaway breakfast they had prepared for us. There was juice, cookies, an orange, yogurt and a chocolate bars. We walked down to the beach and along the promenade for about 45 minutes to Getari. Then we started to climb until we reached Askizu. At this point George smelled coffee. We saw a bar and George rattled the door until the proprietor opened it. He begged for coffee and the proprietor relented and let us in. George is much happier after his coffee. We had a little rest and then descended the mountains to Zumaia. Leaving Zumaia we ascended once more. Up and down for 5 and a half hours. The pictures attest to the splendid and unforgettable scenery. We had a few sprinkles but no real rain. There were a few sheep trails that were very muddy and hard to navigate. Mud up to our shoe laces. By the time we reached Deba we were all tired. We went to the information office to sign into the albergue and get the key. The hospitallera, Lourdes, was there and helped get our clothes washed and dried. We then went to a lovely restaurant called Bordatxo. We had the menu of the day for 11 €. A lovely bean soup and red peppers with fish in a delicious sauce. Desert was fresh pineapple and rice pudding. We are now in the dorm that has bunk beds and sleeps 14. It is full at 45. It is an old school. They are building a new albergue at the train station and it will be ready next year. Our bunk mates are from New Zealand, France, Germany and Spain. Tomorrow, we have a tough day at least 7 hours to Markina Xemein. This leg is considered to be one of the most strenuous of the Norte.
