Castro

Castro Urdiales

Within the dorm, alarms started going off around 0530. The Hospitalero put music on about 0630 to get everyone up and moving. We were all psyched and ready to go rain or no rain. A little coffee got us started. Up the stairs we went to a beautiful paved path looking down at the waves crashing below. We walked for about 11k. Along the way we saw horses and mountain goats We stopped at Miono for coffee. We then took the suggestion of several locals to follow the road and not the marked path. There has been so much rain the path they said was to slippery. We went by road until we got into Castro Urdiales. Once you arrive in a city, it is suggested you go to information and pick up a map and ask where everything you desire is, such as alberque, grocery store, fish restaurant.
We walked with George out to the albergue which was located at the edge of town right behind the bull ring; and, then returned to our lovely pension in the middle of town. La Mar cost 44 euros. Very clean and beautiful and a heater to dry socks and boots.
