San Sebastián Arrival

Our plane landed in Madrid at 6:30am. We were the only ones on the EMT yellow bus which connects directly with the Atocha train station-5€ each. The Atocha train station has Renfe trains that connect Plaza del Sol with the Chamartin train station and the airport. Very convenient!

While in Madrid we got together with Mara who walked with us for the first 9 days of the Camino Plata. Joan had a chance to sharped her Spanish and Portuges as we walked and ate. Mara's work stole her away at 1300. We very much wished she could have joined us.

Mara with her great smile. Church in back ground is the starting point of the Camino Madrid

We managed to get going by 0600 after a night with little sleep. Hopefully are bodies will go on Spanish time soon. We walked the three blocks to Plaza del Sol where there are both Renfe and Metro trains. It takes 15 minutes to travel from Sol to Chamartin where the train to San Sebastián leaves from. There are only two trains on Saturday. We got the 0800 train. Our luggage had to go through a security check before boarding. I of course had my new fanny pack locked around my waist so it took a while to find the key

We just left Chamartin passing through the beautiful green country side. The mountains to the right are snow capped: the sky a cloudless blue. The train trip is 5 and a half hours to San Sebastián where we plan to stay two nights at the Goiko Hostel. Then a train trip to Irun for a night followed by an early morning start towards Santiago.

Here are some pictures of San Sebastián.
