It rained all last night; but, we were cozy and warm with the room heaters on. We knew all we dried would be wet shortly after our 0630 morning departure. The rain continued all day filling our boots once again. We took the advise of the guide books "that if it rains take the road" which we did. There was very little traffic. We were especially careful because the smaller roads have no shoulder to speak of. One advantage of roads is you can cover ground a lot quicker.
We made a reservation at the alberque in Guernica. Prior to arriving in Guernica, the road walk was 2 hours of consistent up hill. We did not find one coffee bar open until we got 3k from Guernica.
We forgot our lessons from the past. Since we start our day in the early morn, when we arrived in Guernica at noon, we went to the albergue finding It was closed until 1600. We were wet cold and tired having walked 25k in the rain. We decided to eat and found a lovely bar and had wine salad and pasta.
We discussed our options and we all agreed if we sat around for four hours we would freeze. To keep ourselves warm we walked to the next albergue a further 10k. When we left Guernica the path was steep and muddy and even with our poles at times difficult. We were the only ones in this albergue at Meakaur. It was about 27 euros which is expensive for a dorm bed.

Pictures and blog are great. The maps are also helpful for those of us unfamiliar with that part of Spain. Stay dry, and barring that order a carrajillo! You will still be wet, but you won't care.
