San Sebastián - Full Day

We planned to do some gentle hiking to Pasajes S. Pedro in the direction of Irun where we will start walking the Camino Norte. The distance round trip was 21km. We left at 0830 and returned at 1600. We met two fascinating Basque hikers who walk every Sunday all day. There are two major routes, one along the mountain ridge with spectacular views with challenging ups and downs. The other lower down with a much more forgiving path. They gave Joan the choice: She chose the mountain ridge. They showed us natural springs you can drink from, ancient aqueducts, forts and a famous light house. They explained the history as we went along. They even shared their food, peanuts.

Once we arrive at Pasajes S. Pedro, our two guides continued across the harbour to continue their walk. We stopped at a bar for a quick coke and croquettes. We chose to return on the lower path saving 45 minutes. We extended our walk to the Youth Hostal La Sirena to check on Tuesday night availability. They were fully booked with youth groups for the next 3 days so we will have to find an alternative.

Today we experienced an extravagansa of scenery. The path was arduous. In places steep, very rocky with tree roots and slippery at times. To top it all off there was a killer flight of steps. We are bushed and we weren't carrying our packs.
